BRIGHT SPOTS
Our funds at work: Best Buddies
In November of 2025, 5B Kids Fund awarded the Wood River Middle School Best Buddies program with $2000 to support their activities and final walking event. They had over 50 student members and 12 one-to-one friendship pairs that met regularly for meetings, social events and inclusion campaigns at school. The year culminated in our 5th Annual Best Buddies Friendship Walk last week where we walked in solidarity for friendship, kindness, and inclusion. Their community-wide event was attended by more than 100 people and showcased community organizations such as Sources of Strength, Blaine County Education Foundation, The Space, Together We, Love Like Ky, Hunger Coalition and Higher Ground.
Join a small team to pull off big things!
April "Committee Showcase" was a great start, but we are still looking for members to join the committees for our key events. If you missed the “showcase”, check out these videos of a few of the committees we are most in need of building on right now, including the Pancake Breakfast and the Holiday Bazaar Raffle.
Our Funds at Work: Carey High School Business Professionals of America
At the April meeting, we awarded $2000 to the Carey High School BPA team to travel to Nashville to participate and compete in the BPA’s National Leadership Conference. These six students were the top students in their competitive regional events. This includes a two-time state champion in legal office and another in desktop publishing. These young ladies are poised to take top awards at the national level. 5B Kids Fund members are happy to support their journey in BPA!
Webb Plant Extravaganza June 6
Spring is here, and so is one of the Wood River Valley’s favorite shopping traditions! 🌸🌱
Join us for the annual Plant Extravaganza at Webb Garden Center in Ketchum and Bellevue — happening the first Saturday in June! Since 1994, local gardeners have come together to shop vibrant flowers, veggie starts, shrubs, and unique garden treasures to kick off the season and support 5B Kids Fund.
While you shop, members of the 5B Kids Fund will be on hand helping customers load purchases and keep the day running smoothly. It’s a fun community event filled with inspiration, fresh blooms, and everything you need to get growing this season. 🌼🪴
We can’t wait to see you there!
Our Funds at Work: Bug Zoo
At the March meeting, we awarded $2000 to the Sawtooth Botanical Garden for their annual Bug Zoo Festival. This fun and educational festival is open to all youth and adults, with a special emphasis on youth from pre-K to 5th grade. It consists of 4 days of class visits plus a lively family festival on Saturday to wrap up the event. The focus is on interactive education, getting youth hands-on with critters and educational exhibits. Dates for this year are May 11-16.
Youth at Bug Zoo get to see metamorphosis in action and feel the flutter of a butterfly in their own hands. This boy is getting ready to release two butterflies that were once just caterpillars! Hope you can check it out!
Kindercup success!
Another successful Kindercup was held this past weekend at Dollar Mountain. 200 skiers and snowboarders participated in this fun and free event hosted by 5B Kids Fund and Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation. Event chair Maureen Puddicombe shared that she loves how much fun all the kids have and that they always cheer for every single one of their fellow racers at the awards ceremony. "They support each other so much, and it's just great to see."
Our Funds at Work: WRMS at StoryCon
Wood River Middle School Librarian sent the following note of thanks for 5B Kids Fund’s recent support that helped send students to StoryCon.
Thank you for your generous grant that made it possible for our 37 middle school students to attend StoryCon. Your support covered transportation, registration, and scholarships, removing barriers that would have prevented many of our students from participating in this incredible opportunity. Because of your investment in our young writers, they were able to experience StoryCon and grow as storytellers and learners. We are deeply grateful for your commitment to enriching our students' educational experiences.
New and old friends celebrated a legacy!
Long-time members, alongside many new faces, of 5B Kids Fund (formerly Papoose Club) came together to celebrate a new name and all that has been accomplished in the club’s long history. 5B Kids Fund president Kat Vanden Heuvel shared that in 2025 alone, 5B Kids Fund granted a record number of grants to youth-serving organizations totalling $56,000! These grants, plus the events that 5B Kids Fund offers for free, served 11,611 youth this past year.
5B Kids Fund is grateful for all of the hardworking members who enable this impact, as well as all of our sponsors who help lower the costs for our fundraising events and make it possible for us to offer free kids events!
